Ready to take on the toughest jobs, GMC’s lineup of Sierra HD trucks never back down from a challenge. Engineered to perform like a workhorse, but delivering the luxury and comforts you would expect out of a European luxury sedan, the Sierra HD brings the best of both worlds together. New for the 2024 model year, the Sierra HD has been reworked, with several new exciting features and updates to entice enthusiasts. However, the frontrunner for the most exciting update likely is the newly tuned available 6.6L Duramax Turbo Diesel V8. Follow along with the experts here at Gus Brown Port Perry as we explore this updated engine and how it performs on the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD.
Bringing no-nonsense brawns to the worksite, the 2024 Sierra HD debuts a new turbocharger and reworked 6.6L Duramax Turbo Diesel V8. The updated V8 delivers an extraordinary statline of 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Power and performance received a substantial boost vs. the previous year, with low end torque improving a full 25% compared to the previous model year Sierra HD. Drivers will notice enhanced exhaust brake performance for better control when towing, as well as uprated valve springs, a more powerful turbo vane actuator and improved engine braking.
Paired to the new otherworldly Duramax V8 is a transmission only worthy of such an honour, drivers will be pleased to find an Alison 10-speed automatic transmission mated to the Sierra HD’s new diesel engine.
Naturally, the new Duramax V8 gives the new 2024 Sierra HD the ability to essentially put on a towing clinic as it already looks like one of the top engine choices in the heavy duty truck segment. Sierra HD 2500 crew cab variants are launched to the top of their ranking when equipped with this engine, as the new turbodiesel Duramax is good for a best-in-class towing rating at 22,070 lbs. For maximum towing capacity, drivers can properly outfit their Sierra HD to achieve 36,000 lbs. If things couldn’t get better, the 2024 Sierra HD also features a host of new and returning innovative towing technologies to help assist you while you’re on the job.
